Blue Flowers

Blue Flowers

Bright blue light
Breaks the still darkness
A face is exposed
As light reveals
The high points of her cheeks
The bridge of her nose
the top of her lip

As night dims to day
The moon still dominates the sky
As she finishes her nightly routine
Scrolling
Waiting for the boy to like her post
Scrolling
Waiting for the “friends” to envy her story
Scrolling

Bathing in the blue light
She stares into the darkness
Admiring the blue circles that appear
when she closes her eyes
She feels her hands buzz twice
Her blue eyes adjust to the blue light of the screen
Scrolling

The veins connecting her hands
To her heart
To her lungs
To her brain
Stream blue
Blue flowers grow from her skin
Feeding the florescent butterflies
Living within her

Without a face
threatening
without a voice
deafening
without a fist
paralyzing
Words echoed in her head
Without having to be spoken
without defense

Her thumb erases the blue light from the dark room
Her eyes wide open
Staring in front of her
The darkness covered ceiling
The flowers return to buds
Her face remaining blue
As the color poured from her eyes
